What better way to celebrate with family than to spend a marvelous vacation in a fabulous private villa? A Cabo first-timer falls head-over-heels for the endless charms of the villa lifestyle.

My husband and I were in Los Cabos to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. After weighing several options to mark the milestone, we decided a Cabo villa rental at the sunny tip of Baja would be the perfect way to commemorate the occasion with our family. A villa would offer us plenty of privacy and room to relax, and our villa’s location in the exclusive Pedregal neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas would be convenient to all the nightlife, shopping and dining of downtown.

On the day of our arrival, a representative of ESSV’s Cabo concierge team greeted us at the San José del Cabo airport (included in each villa rental is a complimentary one-way transfer to the property). Our representative helped us with our baggage, provided ice-cold bottles of water and had us on our way. On the drive to Cabo San Lucas, we admired palatial resorts, pristine beaches and meticulously manicured golf courses along the Tourist Corridor. We marveled at the wild majesty of Baja’s desert landscape and the aquamarine hues of the Sea of Cortez. After passing through the bustling heart of Cabo San Lucas, we entered the gated community of the Pedregal and made our way up winding cobblestone roads past gorgeous residences, granite hillsides and sweeping vistas of the bay to our final destination.

When we reserved Villa Esperanza, we knew we were in for a remarkable getaway. When we arrived, however, the elegantly subdued exterior of our villa didn’t entirely prepare us for what awaited within. The property manager led us through a garden courtyard entry surrounded by lush palms. When he opened the door and ushered us inside, it would be beyond understatement to say that we were speechless.

The villa’s magnificently domed ceilings, marble floors and sophisticated décor created an ambiance that was at once refined and welcoming. The centerpiece was the great room’s curved expanse of windows providing a vast panorama of the Pacific Ocean. After a quiet moment absorbing the remarkable setting, each family member simultaneously cheered with delight before scampering off to explore the rest of the glorious villa.

A Hassle-Free Arrival - Shortly after our arrival, ESSV arranged to deliver our rental cars to the villa. The professional staff of the rental company quickly squared us away with any necessary paperwork. The hassle-free arrival process was a convenient and efficient way to kick off a wonderful vacation.

Once we settled in, relaxation was priority one—and our villa provided us everything we needed toward that end. First, we selected our suites; each spacious room came with plush linens, hacienda-style furnishings, private patios and exquisite baths. We then headed to the large kitchen where we prepared snacks, thanks to the handy pre-stocking of the villa arranged by ESSV. We poured cocktails, headed to the terrace and were relaxing in the ocean-view infinity pool in no time. In fact, this is where we spent the bulk of our getaway—listening to the waves crashing on the beach below, soaking in the Cabo sunshine, and watching cruise ships pass along the coast.

We’d gathered in Cabo to celebrate—and that we did! My mother-in-law worked with ESSV and A Matter of Taste Catering to arrange a surprise anniversary party. On the appointed day, a private chef and waiter arrived to prepare an amazing dinner in our villa. We were thrilled when we walked into the scene of the lovely table setting, a full spread of tempting appetizers and a waiter with a bottle of champagne in hand. The wine selection and creative menu were serious contenders for the best dining experience in Cabo. After dinner, the staff cleaned up and packed our leftovers while we headed outside to stargaze.

The next day, we treated ourselves to luxurious in-villa spa massages by Suzanne Morel Face & Body Care, whose team created a soothing spa setting in several of the suites complete with relaxing music, decorative accents and candles. After our treatments, relaxed and refreshed, we headed back to the pool where we all concurred that these were the best massages we’d ever had.

True, we didn’t spend every moment of our vacation at the villa. We explored the boutiques and restaurants around the lively marina. We spent an evening aboard the Cabomar Catamaran, where we enjoyed salsa music as we cruised past Land’s End to the Pacific for a magnificent sunset. We toured the hauntingly beautiful desert outback on an off-road adventure at Rancho Carisuva.

However, we often found ourselves reluctant to leave the serenity of our villa. The simple joys of grilling fresh seafood on the villa’s barbecue, sipping tequila while the sun dipped below the Pacific and relaxing in the jacuzzi marked the most perfect moments of our villa vacation.

As we drove back to the airport on the final day, our hearts were heavy at leaving this magical place. But, then we smiled at each other and proposed, “Let’s do this again next year!”
